The Longing for Genuine Ground: Navigating Romance Beyond Performative Modern Dating

I really wish I had someone by my side to share my life with romantically. It has been six years since my last relationship, and going through that long stretch alone has made me realise just how much I miss having a real partner.

I know very well that a relationship is not a substitute for therapy or medical care. I am already committed to long-term professional support for my mental health, but genuine companionship and emotional care still provide a kind of comfort and stability that clinical appointments simply cannot replace.

What makes dating today so exhausting is how shallow and performative everything feels. It seems like connection is treated as a contest of unrealistic physical standards, high expectations, and constant validation, rather than an opportunity for two people to truly understand one another.

There is also this unspoken pressure to keep up with an intense pace that feels unnatural to me. Just because my rhythm and drive do not match the aggressive, fast-paced moulds portrayed in popular media does not mean I lack the desire for deep emotional and physical intimacy. Why can't people simply take things slowly and build something at a comfortable, mutual pace?

To make matters worse, modern dating is rife with insincerity. Dealing with people who lead you on, play games, or suddenly treat affection and closeness like a commercial transaction is deeply frustrating.

All I really want is honesty, patience, and a relationship built on authentic, mutual care.
